CONNOR METCALF
MODERN GOTHIC NOVELIST

ABOUT CONNOR
Author bios always feel stiff to me, so let's do this differently—pretend we're just meeting.

My name is Connor Metcalf. I'm a California native who splits time between Los Angeles and Miami, or as a friend's godmother once put it, "Darling, I follow the sun." I share my life with a fiancé and two very personable Havanese pups—a tight-knit little family unit.

I've always had a deep affinity for horror novels, heart-wrenching dramas, and mythological tragedies, which seems ironic given my generally upbeat disposition. But I suppose that's what brought us here. I was twenty, wandering through Book Soup in Los Angeles, when a saffron hardcover caught my eye—Arthur Machen's collected horror stories. I'd never heard of Machen, but something about the cover felt like I wasn't supposed to be reading it, which of course meant I had to have it. For a kid with no background in occult horror, it was a challenging read, but I was hooked.

The truth is, growing up gay in Orange County taught me early that life sometimes requires concealing parts of yourself—burying what doesn't fit the picture-perfect status quo. I think that's why I'm drawn to horror: it tells the truth about what hiding costs, about what those buried parts become when finally unearthed.

I don't write for the status quo. I write stories born from the deepest, darkest shadows of my beautiful mind. And I have a hell of a time doing it.

But enough about me... What did you say you do again?
